Our Top 5 Favourite Places to Watch the Sunset

Something magical happens every time you stand still to watch a sunset.

For those few minutes, the world stands still, as you watch the sky come alight with bright and brilliant colour. Sunsets only last a few minutes before the darkness sets in, leaving you filled with hope for the evening to come. Such wonderful reminder of how beautiful it is to be alive.

And while the sun may set every day, it remains one of the finest and free natural wonders we can enjoy often. Sunsets are also an absolute must see every time you travel to a new destination. This list is of some diverse and special places we have really enjoyed watching the sunset.

Sossusvlei, Namibia.

Topping our list are the sunsets at andBeyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge. You simply can’t convey what an amazing sunset experience awaits. A golden-themed performance with light that turns everything it touches to gold and an experience you’ll remember forever.

Zambezi River, Zimbabwe

At Ruckomechi Camp, on the Zambezi river you can experience a stunning display and become part of what feels like an oil painting. It is simply wonderful to bear witness to the sky and river flicker and burn like fire. Each sunset you can’t help but feel quite small watching this wonderful display stretched across sky. The sky feels so much bigger in Zimbabwe.

Cape Town, South Africa

Yes, we are biased, but truly there’s something special about being at the southern tip of Africa and watching a sunset stretch across the Atlantic Ocean. Cape Town is known for some of the best sunsets in the world and The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa is perfectly situated on Chapman’s Peak drive to take advantage of this view. Their patio will be your front seat to this wondrous show.

Mkgadikgadi Salt Pans, Botswana

We truly love the Mkgadikgadi Salt Pans. The sky and the pans reflecting it below creates a spectacularly huge vista. It’s one of the only places in the world where the silence is complete allowing you to contemplate in silence. At Jack’s Camp, you’ll experience the dramatic sunset and enjoy almost surreal astronomic evenings of star-filled pans.

Indian Ocean, Mauritius

We can’t leave island sunsets off this list. Le Morne is a sunset paradise. Located on the island of Mauritius in the South West corner is a little slice of paradise. You will simply love watching the sun disappear into the Indian Ocean on this magnificent beach. The perfect way to end every day.
