Overnight Couples Getaway | Francois at Angala Boutique Hotel

We couldn’t have asked for a better weekend away.

Angala blends luxury with the beauty of nature. Situated in the heart of the Cape Winelands feels wonderfully remote while being surrounded by wine farms and restaurants, all only a short drive away. Or simply stay in and indulge in their restaurant’s delicious food, which is both locally and ethically sourced. It was the perfect place to get away from it all.

Francois tells us more.

Situated about 60km from Cape Town and located above Vrede en Lust wine farm, Angala is close to Franschhoek. Our first impression was of the beautiful location, way up a hilltop overlooking the surrounding wine farms and mountain ranges.

We chose the small 5-star hotel in the Winelands as a breakaway. The place for myself and my wife, seeking some alone time away from our 3 children for just 1 day.

Service and the finer details.

From the get-go, we must say that Angala’s service was of very high quality and they make one feel at home. They also take care of the details, as one would expect from a boutique hotel, such as the silver tray with sparkling water and nuts for the outside Jacuzzi.

What we got up to.

A real must and included in our stay was a wine tasting voucher at Vrede en Lust wine farm. There is plenty to do outdoors, and as is usual for us, we went for a run around the farm. We saw people cycling and there is also a swimming pool if you want to swim. Pampering sessions and spa treatments are on offer at their spa facility. However, one of the best things is that there is easy access to all the great things to do in Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch.

The food and our highlights.

What could be better than starting a romantic dinner with oysters and finishing with Crème Brulee? This is what we were treated to at that evening’s incredible 4-course dinner. The following morning’s breakfast was excellent and we were treated to oysters (again) and champagne!

The highlight of our stay for me was having uninterrupted time to spend with my wife. It was such a treat to have total privacy, quality food and wine and friendly service throughout.

What we recommend.

We loved every moment of our stay and would most definitely recommend a minimum of a 2 nights stay. Firstly you simply must have dinner at the hotel and a longer stay allows you time to really soak up the surrounding nature and privacy offered.

Angala feels like a great romantic destination for couples.

It is very much for couples looking for a private hotel away for city noises and children. We would not recommend this venue for families with little children. My impression was that their policy is that the hotel is not suited for children under 12 years old. Angala could also accommodate small conference groups, with the great option of booking the whole hotel out for a group of up to 12 delegates.
