What’s better than spending your Saturday evening around a cozy fire in a romantic Victorian farmstead with great food, flawless service and engaging company? This would be the perfect description of Klein Collection’s team building family stopover at Bartholomeus Klip.
It was a Saturday morning when we set off for the 45min drive from Durbanville to Bartholomeus Klip. Along the way the group made a quick pit stop at the scenic Under the Oaks pizzeria. For pizza lovers this is a must and its an ideal location for children with open space at their disposal.
Once the tums were full we hit the road again. It wasn’t long before the gravel road greeted us. The white stone walled entrance made the announcement that we had arrived at our destination. As we headed in the direction of the big blue mountain that borders the sheep farm, newborn lambs made their appearance from behind their mom’s legs along the way.
On arrival we were welcomed by the friendly staff of Bartholomeus Klip whom gladly assisted us with taking our luggage to the respective rooms. The manager didn’t leave us hanging and soon informed us what the plans were for the afternoon. He directed us to the lounge that had a crackling fire going and a decadent high tea spread was set up for us. And of course one can always find extra space for the a slice a decadent chocolate cake, carrot cake, scones with cream, egg mayo sammies and salmon bites.
Once we had settled into our spacious rooms we were invited to go on a guided afternoon game drive. A bunch of us, including the children, hopped onto the 4×4 vehicle while the Bartholomeus Klip staff made sure we were geared with blankets and binoculars ensuring us of a enjoyable drive.
As we drove along our guide would every so often stop so that we could identify the animals while she told interesting stories, events and facts of the reserve and animals on it. Everyone’s eyes were fixed on the fynbos plains once they heard that leopards roam the reserve.
After the informative trip through the reserve we were taken to the Buffalo Sanctuary where we, quite willingly, observed these unpredictable wild animals from a distance.
It was about 18:00 when we got back and next on the agenda was… well, nothing and that suited everyone just perfectly. Once again we found ourselves in front of the fireplace, seated in the comfy couches, served a glass of wine from their elegant wine collection and a tasty nacho snack to munch on. The children had a lot of fun with all the open space given to them and at 18:30 their dinner was served.
In the meantime the Klein Collection team and their partners enjoyed getting to know each other as stories, ideas and lots of laughs were exchanged. About an hour and a half later we were ushered into the candle lit dinning room where the Bartholomeus Klip staff made sure our water glasses stayed full and served the food promptly, leaving no one waiting. The three-course meal was a real treat for our taste buds. Freshly baked homemade rolls, rack of lamb and apple crumble were only a few of the delicious items on the menu.
After dinner we lingered back to the lounge where we enjoyed filter coffee and chatted into the late hours of the evening. At bedtime, each room was accompanied with a sherry nightcap and two date balls served on a petite silver tray.
Each room is conveniently equipped with bath and shower facilities, an air conditioner/heater, gowns and beds that ensure you of a peaceful sleep. The stillness on the farm, apart from the occasional bird song, is quite something to get used to, particularly if you’re used to living in the City.
For the early birds, the next morning muffins, rusks, coffee and tea were served in the lounge. While the adults opted for a later brunch, the kitchen staff gladly accommodated the children with an earlier breakfast. Activities like going for long walks, canoeing on the farm dam and exploring the farm on a bicycle were taken up before brunch was served.
Brunch was once again a huge treat, with a selection of hot and cold dishes to choose from. The staff made sure that the coffee kept coming and saw to it that each guest got their eggs made the way they like it best.
After a nice long lazy brunch group photos were taken and it was time to pack up and head home. Everyone one at Klein Collection will agree that the service, accommodation and food at Bartholomeus Klip is impeccable, the staff were friendly and the property was clean. The Klein Collection team, along with their families, wanted a place where they could relax and unwind in a matter of a day or two and just spend time together. Bartholomeus Klip met and exceeded these expectations by a significant margin.
Well done to the Bartholomeus Klip team, we will gladly recommend your establishment.
